The photos are a little large and I haven't had much time to work on them. Hopefully I can shrink them this afternoon.
In respect to the inspection. 1. All blasting and priming has been completed on the exterior. Fairing work is almost done. There are three boats in front of mine before it goes to the paint shop. 2. The interior has been primed in all areas except the lazarette area. Basically they abrasive clean the weld areas, wipe them clean and put on two coats of epoxy. The first is a different color than the second to help the operators making sure they get good coverage. 3. Initial wire runs are being done. I will post some pictures. When the wire runs are complete abrasion protection is added to where the runs pass through cutouts and then it is all foamed in place to prevent movement. 4. The John Deere non-electronic 6s won't meet tier II requirements so I was given a choice of using one of the last 6068's available for this use or going with an IVECO NEF 150. I chose the IVECO NEF for a few reasons. It is a NA engine with a mechanical governor and meets tier II requirements. (NA engines with mechanical governors are the most reliable, an obvious plus for a single engine trawler.) IVECO is a JV between Case/Cummins and a couple European partners. I believe that Fiat owns it. These engines are very popular in Europe. Their CR engines are the design used in Dodge trucks. Bill mentioned that the NEF150 may fit pretty well in the 46-2 as well, though he is trying to confirm this. here is a link to thier Marine Section: IVECO Marine Engines Here is the link for the NEF 150 (I will get the D rated engine if Bill confirms he is happy with them) IVECO NEF 150 I don't know if Bill is considering reccomending an IVECO in place of the John Deere's or not but he is actively looking at them. I'll try and post pictures later today. Most are detailed shots of certain parts of the construction work in progress so they don't give a very good feel for layout. But that is what I've got. Hugh |
