Fire engine RED is great...white pilot house....light grey decks....Black band around windows to lower the pilot house and natural anodized spars...biggest problem is Bill Cannot get Black antifouling....so I have a white boot top "TAPE" to put on...if it looks no good we can peel it off in the water....it will only last until the first ICE but we plan on a couple of season in the sun getting wet first....

Lifetime sailing including 1990 BOC Singlehanded Around World Race...many Antarctic sailing expeditions....lived together alone in a box in Antarctica for a year.

I love the red hull idea. Check out some of the Canadian Coast Guard ice breakers. They use red with a wide up turned diagonal white band just fore of amidship. Very eye catchy. I believe the illustration of the 42 Plus on the Duck Stock Plan Page has a red hull shown. I love it and when I get my duck I'll have a blazing red one with white accents. (yes I'm canadian.)

The hull below the rubrail is light grey, the rub rail is red and the everything above is off-white (all standard Awlgrip colors.) We carry the gray below the rubrail across the bottom third of the transom. It greatly reduces the bulky look of the stern.

Based on direct observation on my Coot, bright yellow and light-straw/brown colors are minimally warmer than white, in contrast to light grey which is as warm as the concrete docks.
