Day Tanks

I am starting the planning of tankage for my 48 DDuck home build. I am waffling on the strategy of having a "day" tank of maybe 75 gallons to be the source of real time polished fuel. That would give more than 24 hours of fuel and ample opportunity to refill/polish daily usage for longer transits. Is this a good idea or not?

Thanks

In the Diesel Duck Sedan that Seahorse built for us, we have four fuel tanks. One of the tanks (~340 gallons) is designated as the "operations" tank. The fuel supply manifold for engine, generator and furnace take ONLY from the "operations" tank. The engine fuel return goes into this tank as well.

There are two other fuel manifolds associated with the fuel transfer system (supply and return) that allow the management of the fuel between the tanks. When fuel is moved through this system it passes through a Racor 1000 with a 10 micron fuel filter separate from the normal engine primary/secondary fuel filters.

While a true day tank located higher than the engine might offer some protection from a lift pump failure, Our large "operations" tank allows us to cruise for many days without having to fuss with fuel management.
