Is there any consensus on a particular engine brand to avoid or choose? IVECO seems to really be coming on strong but John Deere is popular, and the LUGGER conversion is highly touted. While it seems all industrial diesels are pretty reliable, I'd like to hear if anybody has any strong feelings (pro or con) about a particular one!

It has been comforting to me to see John Deere equipment being used in just about every country we have visited. We also see Caterpillar equipment as well. I read that Iveco is represented in 65 countries. Check out this page and the surprise information near the bottom. I want one of those 642s.

I always wondered about the proliferation of electronic diesels and vulnerability to lightening strikes or electronics failure and immobilization. Any of these manufacturers better at protection? I guess that’s where the sail comes in.

I have seen remote controls on engines ,but you need electronics . How good are they . If you get one with the remote engine and bow thruster that would be cool for short hand docking and anchor retrieval .
