We have purchased the 2/3's Alaska charts from Bellingham Chart Printers (BCP). We actually did not have a chance to use them because we didn't get that far north in our cruise this Spring. As a backup to our primary electronic charts (we had C-Map chips for our chart plotter and raster & vector charts for our notebook computer), the 2/3 charts are probably fine.
We found BCP to be a good company to work with and delivered their products as promised in a timely manner. Marcia & Kurt Alpenglow, SD462-04 |

What is the resolution and detail like on these repro B&W charts?
Can you see it all at 2/3 scale - full size can get pretty cluttered for aging eyes. |

The reproduction quality is good (i.e., it isn't fuzzy) so there is plenty of resolution. You probably want to have a magnifier available for the fine detail. The absence of color cues also takes some getting use to

I am going to get them to post me one and take a look before spending a bomb on several complete sets.
Colour is not such a big deal to me anyway as, like 10% of the male population, I am a bit colour blind. Robert PS - this constant auto correcting of the Queens English is annoying. |

Hello Robert, Dave Nagle responding to you on Randal Johnson's computer. We've done a fair amount of business with Bellingham the past 3 years. They are always helpful, quick, responsive, and do exactly what they say they will. The quality of the 2/3 charts is more than adequate for the job. I sort thru the area portfolio and pull out the applicable charts for a passage, make notes on them, keep them next to the helm while underway, mark hourly position, check for any hazards on the route planned (much easier on the right chart, than trying to do this on the monitor). I also have "old eyes" and use a magnifier and good light to get the detail. And the charts are tough enough to survive my pouring sweat over them in this tropical area. Dave
